John Locke

John Locke (1632-1704) was an influential English philosopher known for his ideas on how we acquire knowledge and the nature of government. In epistemology, he argued that knowledge comes from experience, suggesting that the mind is like a blank slate at birth. In metaphysics, he explored the nature of identity and substance. Ethically, Locke believed in natural rights—life, liberty, and property—that governments must respect. In political philosophy, he advocated for a government based on consent and the social contract, arguing that people have the right to overthrow a government that fails to protect their rights.
