Foundationalism

Foundationalism in Epistemology is the idea that our knowledge and beliefs rest on a foundation of self-evident or unquestionable truths. It argues that not all knowledge requires proof, and certain "basic" truths need to be accepted without question for our system of belief or knowledge to make sense. Like a building rests on a firm base, our knowledge stands on foundational beliefs.
