Methodological Skepticism
Methodological skepticism is a philosophical approach that considers the possibility of doubting all knowledge, especially what we take for granted. It encourages critical examination of beliefs to determine their validity. By questioning the reliability of our senses and the assumptions we make, we aim to discover what we can truly know with certainty. This method has roots in the work of philosophers like René Descartes, who famously said, "I think, therefore I am," asserting that while we can doubt many things, the act of doubting itself confirms our existence and thought processes.
