Westminster-style parliamentary system
The Westminster-style parliamentary system is a democratic governance model, primarily used in the UK and some Commonwealth countries. In this system, the executive branch (the government) derives its legitimacy from and is accountable to the legislature (parliament). The Prime Minister, the head of government, is usually the leader of the majority party in parliament. Members of parliament (MPs) represent constituencies and debate laws. This system often features a clear separation of powers, with the Prime Minister being selected from elected representatives, which fosters collaboration between the legislative and executive branches while ensuring checks and balances.
