Alexander the Great (356–323 BC) was a Macedonian king and military leader who created one of the largest empires in ancient history. He began his conquest of the Persian Empire at age 20, achieving decisive victories at battles like Granicus and Gaugamela. Known for his brilliant tactics and charismatic leadership, he spread Greek culture throughout his empire, which extended from Greece to Egypt and into northwest India.
