History of Macedonia
Macedonia, a region in Southeast Europe, has a rich history marked by its ancient kingdom, which reached its peak under King Philip II and his son, Alexander the Great, in the 4th century BCE. The kingdom expanded across Greece and into Asia, spreading Greek culture. After its fall, Macedonia became part of the Roman and Byzantine Empires. In the 20th century, conflicts over its identity emerged, especially during Yugoslavia’s breakup. Today, North Macedonia is an independent country, navigating its history, cultural heritage, and regional relations, particularly with Greece, over the use of the name "Macedonia."
