The Republic of North Macedonia is a country in Southeast Europe, located on the Balkan Peninsula. It gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. The capital city is Skopje. The country is known for its rich history, cultural diversity, and beautiful landscapes, including lakes and mountains. North Macedonia is a parliamentary republic, with a population of around 2 million people, primarily ethnic Macedonians and Albanians. In recent years, it has pursued closer ties with the European Union and NATO. Its name change in 2019, from Macedonia to North Macedonia, resolved a long-standing dispute with Greece.
