
Macedonia (North Macedonia)
North Macedonia, officially known as the Republic of North Macedonia, is a landlocked country in Southeast Europe, located on the Balkan Peninsula. It gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. The capital city is Skopje, known for its historic sites and modern architecture. The country is known for its diverse culture, influenced by various civilizations, and its natural beauty, including lakes and mountains. In 2019, it officially changed its name from the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to North Macedonia, a change aimed at resolving a long-standing dispute with Greece. The country is a candidate for European Union membership.
