Artaxerxes III, also known as Artaxerxes III Ochus, was a king of the Persian Empire who reigned from 358 to 338 BCE. He was the last effective ruler of the Achaemenid dynasty, known for his efforts to restore the empire's power after a period of decline. His reign was marked by military campaigns and the suppression of revolts, particularly in Egypt. Artaxerxes III aimed to consolidate his rule and strengthen the empire but faced internal strife. His reign ended with his assassination, leading to further instability in the Persian Empire before its eventual conquest by Alexander the Great.
