Artaxerxes IV (Artaxerxes IV Arses)
Artaxerxes IV, also known as Artaxerxes IV Arses, was a Persian king who ruled the Achaemenid Empire from 359 to 338 BCE. He was the son of King Artaxerxes III and ascended the throne during a period of internal instability. His reign was relatively short and marked by political unrest, as he struggled to maintain control over the vast empire. Despite his efforts, his rule faced challenges from rebellious satraps (regional governors) and internal factions. Artaxerxes IV was ultimately assassinated, leading to a brief period of chaos before his successor secured power.
