Diogenes of Sinope
Diogenes of Sinope was a Greek philosopher and one of the most famous figures of Cynicism, a school of thought that emphasized living in accordance with nature and rejecting societal norms. Born in the 4th century BCE, he lived a minimalist lifestyle, famously residing in a large ceramic jar. Diogenes is known for his provocative actions and sharp wit, often critiquing materialism and hypocrisy. He believed that virtue was better revealed in action than in theory, and he famously wandered the streets with a lantern in daylight, claiming to search for an honest man. His ideas continue to influence discussions on ethics and simplicity.
