Self-Determination Theory
Self-Determination Theory (SDT) is a psychological framework that focuses on human motivation and personality. It suggests that people are most motivated when they experience three core needs: autonomy (the desire to make choices), competence (the need to feel effective in activities), and relatedness (the wish to connect with others). When these needs are satisfied, individuals are more likely to be engaged, strive for personal growth, and enjoy well-being. In contrast, when these needs are frustrated, motivation can diminish, leading to feelings of stress or disengagement. SDT highlights the importance of supportive environments in fostering motivation and well-being.
