Hammurabi

Hammurabi was an ancient Babylonian king who reigned from 1792 to 1750 BCE and is best known for creating one of the earliest and most comprehensive written legal codes, known as the Code of Hammurabi. This code established laws covering various aspects of daily life, including trade, property rights, and family matters, and emphasized the principle of justice with the famous phrase "an eye for an eye." The stele, or stone monument, inscribed with these laws served as a public declaration of legal standards, influencing future legal systems and highlighting the importance of rule and order in society.
