The Babylonians were an ancient civilization that emerged in Mesopotamia, around modern-day Iraq, around 1894 BC. They are known for significant advancements in agriculture, law, and mathematics. The famous Babylonian King Hammurabi created one of the earliest written law codes, known as the Code of Hammurabi. The Babylonians also made important contributions to astronomy and developed a base-60 number system, which influences how we measure time today.
