Reconquista
The Reconquista was a period in history, lasting from the 8th to the late 15th century, during which Christian kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula sought to reclaim territory taken by Muslim rule after the Umayyad conquest. This effort culminated in 1492 with the capture of Granada, the last Muslim stronghold, by the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella. The Reconquista was marked by various battles, cultural exchanges, and significant political changes, shaping the development of Spain and Portugal. It also laid the groundwork for the subsequent Age of Exploration and the expansion of European influence worldwide.
