Battle of Covadonga

The Battle of Covadonga, fought around 722 AD, was a pivotal conflict in the early stages of The Reconquista, the Christian effort to reclaim Iberia from Muslim rule. Led by the Christian leader Pelayo, a small group of warriors took a stand against a much larger Muslim force in the mountainous region of Covadonga in northern Spain. The Christians won, which became a symbol of resistance and hope for future campaigns against Muslim dominion. This victory marked the beginning of a long struggle to reclaim the Iberian Peninsula, ultimately shaping Spain's religious and cultural landscape.
