Emirate of Córdoba

The Emirate of Córdoba was a medieval Islamic state in what is now Spain, existing from 756 to 929 AD. It was established when Abd al-Rahman I, a descendant of the Umayyad caliphs, escaped the Abbasid revolution and sought refuge in Hispania. The emirate became a center of culture, science, and trade, fostering advancements in philosophy, medicine, and architecture. In 929, it declared itself a caliphate, elevating its status. The Emirate of Córdoba played a significant role in the rich history of al-Andalus, influencing European culture during the Middle Ages.
