Taifa of Córdoba

The Taifa of Córdoba was a medieval Islamic kingdom that emerged in the 11th century after the fall of the Caliphate of Córdoba in al-Andalus (medieval Spain). It consisted of small, independent Muslim-ruled states called taifas, each governed by local leaders. These kingdoms were culturally vibrant, known for advances in science, philosophy, and the arts, but often struggled with internal conflicts and external threats from Christian kingdoms to the north. The Taifa period reflects a time of political fragmentation, yet also cultural flourishing, before the eventual reconsolidation of Spain under Christian rule.
