Don Pelayo
Don Pelayo was a Spanish noble and military leader known for his role in the early stages of the Reconquista, the centuries-long effort to reclaim Iberian territories from Muslim rule. He is most famous for his victory at the Battle of Covadonga in 722 AD, which is considered the starting point of the Christian reconquest of Spain. Pelayo became a symbol of resistance and unity, later recognized as the first king of the Kingdom of Asturias. His actions helped inspire future generations in their fight to reclaim territory and solidify Christian rule in the region.
