La Reconquista (historical period)

La Reconquista was a prolonged period from the 8th to the 15th century in which Christian kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula gradually reclaimed territory from Muslim rule, following the initial Muslim conquest in 711. It was characterized by military campaigns, alliances, and political shifts, ultimately leading to the Christian unification of Spain and Portugal. The Reconquista concluded in 1492 with the fall of Granada, the last Muslim stronghold, paving the way for the emergence of modern Spain and Portugal. This period significantly shaped the cultural, religious, and political landscape of the Iberian Peninsula.
