Alfred Wegener

Alfred Wegener was a German scientist who proposed the theory of continental drift in the early 20th century. He suggested that continents were once connected in a single landmass called Pangaea and have since drifted apart. Although his ideas were initially met with skepticism, wegener's work laid the foundation for modern plate tectonics, which explains how the Earth’s surface is divided into large plates that move and interact, causing earthquakes and volcanic activity. His research has significantly influenced seismology and our understanding of the dynamic processes shaping the Earth’s crust.
