Wegener's contributions to meteorology
Alfred Wegener was a meteorologist and geophysicist who proposed the groundbreaking idea of continental drift, suggesting that Earth's continents were once joined and have since moved apart. His work helped explain the distribution of climate patterns, such as polar ice and tropical fossils, by linking them to past continental arrangements. Although initially controversial, Wegener’s ideas laid the foundation for plate tectonics, transforming our understanding of Earth's dynamic surface and the interconnectedness of atmospheric and geological processes. His insights continue to influence meteorology and Earth sciences today.
