Tethys Ocean
The Tethys Ocean was a large body of water that existed between the continents of Laurasia (North America, Europe, and Asia) and Gondwana (South America, Africa, Antarctica, and Australia) during the Mesozoic Era, around 250 to 65 million years ago. It played a significant role in the evolution of marine life and the geological history of Earth. Over time, tectonic forces caused the Tethys Ocean to shrink and eventually disappear, contributing to the formation of mountain ranges like the Alps and Himalayas as the continents collided and shifted.
