Tethys Sea

The Tethys Sea was an ancient ocean that existed during the Mesozoic Era, roughly between 250 and 90 million years ago. It separated the ancient continents of Laurasia and Gondwana, which later formed parts of Europe, Africa, and Asia. This vast body of water played a crucial role in Earth's geological history, influencing climate, ocean currents, and the distribution of marine life. Over time, tectonic movements caused the Tethys Sea to gradually shrink and close, contributing to the formation of mountain ranges like the Alps and Himalayas. Its remnants are found today in regions such as the Mediterranean Sea.
