Earth’s crust

The Earth's crust is the outermost layer of our planet, forming the surface we walk on. It consists of solid rock and varies in thickness, being thinner under oceans (oceanic crust) and thicker under continents (continental crust). The crust is where all terrestrial life exists and is made up of several tectonic plates that move slowly over time. This movement can cause earthquakes, volcanic activity, and the formation of mountains. The crust is essential for supporting ecosystems, human structures, and is rich in minerals and resources we utilize every day.
