Abolitionism

Abolitionism is the movement dedicated to ending the practice of slavery. It emerged in the 18th and 19th centuries, advocating for the legal abolition of owning, trading, and exploiting human beings as property. Abolitionists believed that slavery was morally wrong, unjust, and incompatible with human rights. Their efforts included political activism, literature, protests, and building networks to persuade governments and societies to eliminate slavery. The movement played a crucial role in ending slavery in many countries, such as the abolition of the slave trade in Britain (1807) and the emancipation of slaves in the United States (1863).
