Grimké sisters

The Grimké sisters, Sarah Moore Grimké and Angelina Emily Grimké, were prominent American abolitionists and women's rights advocates in the 19th century. Born into a wealthy slave-owning family in South Carolina, they became vocal critics of slavery and moved to the North, where they spoke out against it and campaigned for social justice. They were among the first women to publicly address mixed-gender audiences, challenging societal norms of their time. Their activism highlighted the interconnectedness of the struggles for abolition and women's rights, making significant contributions to both movements in the United States.
