Antebellum Period

The Antebellum Period refers to the time in American history before the Civil War, roughly from the late 18th century to 1861. This era was marked by significant social, economic, and political changes, including the expansion of slavery, the rise of the abolitionist movement, and the growth of the plantation economy in the South. The period also saw cultural developments, such as the Women's Rights movement and changes in education and religion. Tensions between the North and South escalated as differing views on slavery and states' rights emerged, leading to the eventual outbreak of the Civil War.
