Martin Delany

Martin Delany was a 19th-century African American abolitionist, journalist, physician, and writer, known for his pioneering role in advocating for Black nationalism and the rights of African Americans. Born in 1812 in Virginia, he became one of the first people of African descent to be trained as a physician in the United States. Delany emphasized the importance of self-determination for Black people and was an early proponent of the emigration movement, encouraging African Americans to settle in Africa. His notable works include "The Condition, Elevation, Emigration, and Destiny of the Colored People of the United States."
