Martin Delany (Abolitionist and Physician)
Martin Delany was a 19th-century African American leader, born in 1812, who dedicated his life to fighting for the rights and freedom of Black people. He was a physician, which means he was trained to help people health-wise, and also a passionate abolitionist advocating to end slavery. Delany was one of the first Black nationalists, promoting pride, education, and self-reliance among African Americans. He also supported Black migration to Africa as a way to escape racial oppression in the U.S. His work helped shape the fight for civil rights and equality.
