Garrisonian Abolitionism
Garrisonian Abolitionism refers to the movement led by William Lloyd Garrison in the 19th century that sought to end slavery in the United States. Garrison advocated for the immediate emancipation of all enslaved people and believed that slavery was a moral sin. He founded the abolitionist newspaper "The Liberator" in 1831 and was a prominent figure in the American Anti-Slavery Society. Garrison's approach emphasized nonviolent protest, moral persuasion, and the importance of public awareness, aiming to rally public opinion against slavery and promote civil rights for African Americans.
