Lucy Stone

Lucy Stone (1818-1893) was a prominent American suffragist, abolitionist, and activist for women's rights. She is best known for her efforts to secure voting rights for women and her advocacy for equal treatment regardless of gender. Stone was the first woman in Massachusetts to earn a college degree, graduating from Oberlin College. She famously kept her maiden name after marriage, promoting the idea that women should maintain their identities. Her speeches and writings were influential in the suffrage movement, making her a key figure in the push for women's equality in the United States.
