2. Formation of the National Woman Suffrage Association and American Woman Suffrage Association
In the late 19th century, two key organizations emerged to advocate for women's voting rights in the United States. The National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) was founded in 1869 by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, focusing primarily on securing a constitutional amendment for women's suffrage. Meanwhile, the American Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA) was formed around the same time, led by Lucy Stone, promoting state-level campaigns for women's voting rights. Though differing in strategy, both organizations played crucial roles in the women's suffrage movement, ultimately uniting in 1890 to strengthen their efforts and achieve voting rights for women.
