American Woman Suffrage Association
The American Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA) was formed in 1869 during the fight for women's voting rights in the United States. It focused on achieving suffrage through state-by-state campaigns, promoting the idea that women should have the right to vote to influence issues affecting their lives. Unlike its counterpart, the National Woman Suffrage Association, which sought a constitutional amendment for voting rights, the AWSA believed in a more gradual approach. The organization played a key role in advocating for women's rights and eventually contributed to the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, granting women the right to vote.
