Punic Wars

The Punic Wars were a series of three conflicts fought between Rome and the city-state of Carthage from 264 to 146 BCE. The wars stemmed from competition for trade and territory in the Mediterranean. The First Punic War involved naval battles over Sicily, resulting in Roman victory. The Second Punic War is famous for Hannibal's daring march across the Alps to invade Italy, but ultimately ended in Roman triumph. The Third Punic War resulted in the complete destruction of Carthage. These wars significantly expanded Roman power and territory, marking a key period in Rome's rise as a dominant Mediterranean force.
