Ancient Carthage

Ancient Carthage was a powerful Phoenician city-state located in present-day Tunisia, established around the 9th century BCE. It became a major trading hub in the Mediterranean, known for its navy and commerce. Carthage is best known for its conflicts with Rome, particularly during the Punic Wars, which stretched from 264 to 146 BCE. The city was a center of culture and innovation, influencing art, religion, and governance. After its defeat by Rome, Carthage was destroyed in 146 BCE, marking the end of its prominence, but it remains a significant part of ancient African history and Mediterranean civilization.
