Battle of Cannae

The Battle of Cannae, fought in 216 BC during the Second Punic War, was a major encounter between the Roman Republic and Carthaginian forces led by General Hannibal. Hannibal strategically surrounded the larger Roman army using a double-envelopment tactic, causing a devastating defeat for Rome. Despite being outnumbered, his forces effectively outmaneuvered the Romans, resulting in the death or capture of tens of thousands of soldiers. This battle is frequently studied for its military tactics and remains a classic example of how superior strategy can defeat a numerically stronger opponent.
