Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong was an American astronaut and the first person to walk on the Moon. Born on August 5, 1930, he became a naval pilot before joining NASA. Armstrong flew on the Gemini 8 mission and was the commander of Apollo 11 in 1969. On July 20, he famously stepped onto the lunar surface, declaring it a "giant leap for mankind." His achievement marked a significant moment in space exploration and the U.S. space race. After retiring from NASA, he became a professor and continued to inspire future generations in science and technology until his passing in 2012.
