Kyoto Protocol

The Kyoto Protocol is an international treaty adopted in 1997 aimed at combating climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It sets binding targets for developed countries to lower their emissions, recognizing that they contribute more to climate change historically. Countries can meet their targets through national efforts or by participating in market mechanisms, such as carbon trading. The Protocol marks a significant commitment by nations to address global warming and encourages cooperation in environmental protection. Although it has faced challenges and criticisms, it laid the groundwork for future climate agreements like the Paris Agreement.
