Landfilling
Landfilling is the process of disposing of waste by burying it in designated areas called landfills. These sites are carefully engineered to minimize environmental impact, featuring systems to manage leachate (liquid that drains from waste) and methane gas (a byproduct of decomposition). Waste is compacted and covered regularly to reduce odors, and landfills can later be repurposed for parks or other uses. While landfilling is a common waste management method, it raises concerns about long-term environmental effects, making recycling and waste reduction increasingly important for sustainable practices.
