Dietary fiber is a type of carbohydrate found in plant-based foods that the body cannot digest. It helps regulate the body’s use of sugars, helping to keep hunger and blood sugar in check. There are two types of fiber: soluble, which dissolves in water and can help lower cholesterol, and insoluble, which adds bulk to stool and aids digestion. Foods rich in fiber include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and nuts. A diet high in fiber can promote digestive health, prevent constipation, and may lower the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes.
