Turkish War of Independence
The Turkish War of Independence (1919-1923) was a national struggle led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk to establish Turkey as a sovereign nation after the Ottoman Empire's defeat in World War I. Following partition plans by Allied powers, Turkish leaders and resistance fighters fought against occupying forces and local governments imposed by the Allies. They aimed to restore independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The war culminated in the Treaty of Lausanne (1923), which recognized Turkey's borders and independence, laying the groundwork for the modern Republic of Turkey.
