Khilafat Agitation

The Khilafat Agitation (1920-1924) was a political movement in India aimed at defending the Ottoman Empire's Sultan, the Caliph, after World War I. Indian Muslims, feeling a spiritual connection to the Caliphate, protested British actions that threatened its authority. The agitation aimed to unite Muslims against colonial rule and sought to establish a stronger Muslim identity in India. Notably, it was part of a larger struggle for Indian independence and aligned with the Indian National Congress, leading to increased collaboration between Hindus and Muslims in the fight against British colonialism.
