Khilafat Manifesto
The Khilafat Manifesto, issued in 1919, was a political document by Indian Muslims in response to the disbanding of the Ottoman Empire after World War I, which they viewed as a threat to the Islamic caliphate. The manifesto sought to unite Muslims in India to protect the caliphate and demanded the restoration of the Sultan of Turkey as the caliph. It aimed to mobilize support for Muslim rights and foster Hindu-Muslim unity against British imperialism in India. The Khilafat movement became significant in the context of India's struggle for independence and highlighted the intersection of religious identity and nationalism.
