Khilafat Committee

The Khilafat Committee was established in 1919 by Indian Muslim leaders, including Maulana Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali, in response to the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire after World War I. The committee aimed to protect the position of the Ottoman Caliphate, which held religious significance for Muslims worldwide. It sought to rally Indian Muslims against British colonial rule and advocate for the rights of Muslims both in India and the Ottoman territories. The movement eventually connected with the Indian independence struggle and highlighted the communal and political aspirations of Muslims in India during that period.
