Committee of Union and Progress
The Committee of Union and Progress (CUP) was a political organization in the early 20th century Ottoman Empire. Founded by reform-minded intellectuals and military officers, it aimed to modernize the empire, promote nationalism, and implement political and social reforms. The CUP played a crucial role in the Young Turk Revolution of 1908, which sought to restore constitutional rule. However, the group later became associated with authoritarian practices and was implicated in the Armenian Genocide during World War I. The CUP's influence waned after the empire's defeat in the war, leading to its eventual dissolution and the establishment of modern Turkey.
