Thyroid gland
The thyroid gland is a small, butterfly-shaped organ located in the front of the neck, just below the Adam's apple. It produces hormones that regulate the body’s metabolism, energy levels, and overall growth and development. These hormones, primarily thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), help control how the body uses food for energy. Proper thyroid function is essential for maintaining a healthy weight, mood, and temperature regulation. An imbalance in thyroid hormone production can lead to conditions like hyperthyroidism (overactive) or hypothyroidism (underactive), affecting various bodily functions and requiring medical attention.
