Thyroidectomy

Thyroidectomy is a surgical procedure in which all or part of the thyroid gland, located in the neck, is removed. This gland produces hormones that regulate metabolism, energy, and other vital functions. The surgery is typically performed to treat conditions such as thyroid cancer, large goiters causing discomfort, or hyperthyroidism. During the procedure, the surgeon carefully removes the affected tissue while aiming to minimize damage to nearby structures like nerves and parathyroid glands. After a thyroidectomy, patients may need hormone replacement therapy to compensate for lost thyroid function and will require regular follow-up to monitor their health.
