Oliver Cromwell

Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658) was an English military and political leader best known for his role in the English Civil War. He led the Parliamentarian forces against King Charles I, advocating for a more democratic government. Following the King's execution in 1649, Cromwell became the Lord Protector of England, essentially ruling as a dictator. His rule is marked by strict Puritan morality and military campaigns in Ireland and Scotland. After his death, the monarchy was restored, but Cromwell remains a controversial figure, admired for his leadership and criticized for his authoritarian approach.
