
Zone of Proximal Development
The Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) is a concept introduced by psychologist Lev Vygotsky. It refers to the difference between what a learner can do independently and what they can achieve with guidance from a more knowledgeable person, such as a teacher or peer. In this zone, effective learning occurs as the learner is challenged just enough to stretch their abilities without becoming overwhelmed. Essentially, ZPD emphasizes the importance of support and collaboration in the learning process, allowing individuals to progress and develop their skills more effectively.
